One important technique we were practising was the 180 degree rule. This allows the viewer to understand the scene more by making them feel like there present in the scene
The 180 degree rule is when two characters are in a room, facing each other and the camera or cameras only film from one side of the characters.
So, if the two characters are facing each other, we should see Character A's right cheek and Character B's left cheek.
The line of vision is the imaginary line which the two characters are looking at each other through. If using the 180 degree rule then cameras will only be on one side of this imaginary line.
Going over the line is called Crossing the Line.
